Desktops hosted in the cloud
The Workspace Service creates cloud-based desktops based on the Workspace Flavors. This workspace and its data can be accessed from any terminal device – including mobile devices. It is not only possible to set up standard workspaces based on the Workspace Flavors. Graphic-intensive applications can also be operated (by means of a vGPU) on Windows 7 or Windows 10 interfaces. This service also allows the use of the customer’s own operating system licenses, provides two-factor authentication and allows access to the Internet.
The Workspace Service enriches the virtual machines with graphical preparation of the operating system, allowing users to keep their familiar Windows 7 or Windows 10 environment. In addition, the Workspace Service provides an access client that enables easy access to the virtual machine (without the end user having to log on to the Open Telekom Cloud). A central user of the customer performs the central management of the workspace system. As soon as this user has rolled out the corresponding virtual machines, the users receive an e-mail with the access data for their workspace. Provision from the cloud enables access to the services and data stored there from any location and terminal device. The data generated in the course of the work is also saved in the Open Telekom Cloud.
Five VMs are offered for the workspace. Three standard Flavors:
- 2 vCPU with 4 GB RAM
- 4 vCPU with 8 GB RAM
- 6 vCPU with 16 GB RAM
Two further Flavors contain one additional virtual graphics card (vGPU) each:
- 4 vCPU/8 GB RAM
- 8 vCPU/16 GB RAM
Besides these VMs, dedicated hosts can also be used as an infrastructure basis for the virtual desktops. The advantage: It is also possible to use your own Windows licenses here. A Windows Server license is not required.
The Workspace Services are invoiced on an hourly basis. They already contain all back-end systems required for streaming the Workspace Service. At present, the Workspace Service is only offered with a Windows OS.
