Simple Message Notification (SMN)
Simple Message Notifications make your cloud landscapes more intelligent: individual resources can be enabled to exchange messages and even trigger actions, users can be informed of current statuses or send out mass mailing, and the messages can even be used to enable automation within a cloud.
The Simple Message Notification (SMN) service in the Open Telekom Cloud offers three APIs for creating topics (a combination of a message and a logical access point), adding message subscribers, and sending out messages. It includes two central roles: publisher and subscriber. In contrast to the Distributed Message Service (DMS), a subscriber can also be external, e.g., an email address, a telephone number, a message queue or a URL. SMN is easy to integrate with other services and can thus act as an intermediary for data exchange. The service works using redundant message nodes: if one of the nodes fails, another one is used instead, ensuring that messages are transmitted reliably, regardless of how they are sent. SMN delivers these messages to various end points in a readable format (SMS, email, http/s). The SMN service itself is free of charge, but the activated follow-up actions generate costs.
SMN does not require many development and maintenance resources, reducing your message notification costs.
SMN provides three basic APIs to create topics, add subscriptions, and publish messages and can be quickly integrated into your services. It enables you to send messages in substantial quantity and do not require highly skilled development.
The Open Telekom Cloud management console is a web user interface for you to manage your computing, storage, and other cloud resources. After you register an account on the management console, you can log in and select Simple Message Notification on the homepage to switch to the SMN console.
You can publish a message once, and SMN delivers it to endpoints to various message types.
If you want to integrate SMN into a third-party system for secondary development, you can access SMN using APIs. For details, see the Simple Message Notification API Reference.
After events or alarms are triggered, SMN can send notifications to specified users by email, text message, or HTTP/HTTPS message. For example, Cloud Trace Service (CTS) detects key cloud service operations and uses SMN to notify you and other users.
SMN functions as a message middleware to connect cloud services, reducing system complexity and improving efficiency. For example, Cloud Eye does not have to be integrated with Object Storage Service (OBS) to interact with each other. Instead, they are connected by SMN. Therefore, faults in one service will not affect the other.
If there is a discrepancy between processing capabilities of the upstream and downstream systems, SMN can cache data to reduce downstream pressure to reduce breakdowns, enhance availability, and mitigate complexity in the system.
